Quest for Gold - Athlete Eligibility Criteria
The Ontario amputee and Les Autres Sports Association
has been allocated a total of four Ontario Cards - Two for female athletic
participants and two for male athletic participants.
Sport or sports discipline must be a participant in
the regular program of :-
2008 Olympic
/Paralympic Summer Games - Beijing
2010 Olympic/
Paralympic Winter Games - Vancouver
2007 Canada Winter
Games
2009 Canada Summer
Games
Eligible sports in
Ontario Youth Games - may fluctuate depending on particular games event
General Athlete Eligibility Criteria (applies to
Canada and Ontario cards):
Athlete must be a
Canadian citizen or landed immigrant
Athlete must be a
resident of Ontario for one year prior to his her nomination for carding status
Athletes must be
training and continuing to train in Ontario. Exceptions will be made providing
that the athlete can substantiate that:
o
He/She cannot receive
the required level of training in Ontario (i.e. due to lack of facilities,
coaching, competition);
o
He/She must attend a
post-secondary institution out-of-province because the course of study is not
available to him/her in Ontario;
o
It is more financially
feasible to attend a post-secondary institution out-of-province, or other
extenuating circumstances that require the athlete to be out of the province
Athlete must be a member
in good standing with Ontario Amputee and Les Autres Sports Association and
Canadian Amputee Sports Association
Athlete must not be
receiving financial assistance from the Foundation for Athletes and Sport
Training (FAST) in the same fiscal year
Athlete must demonstrate
a commitment and dedication to a proper training and competitive program.
Athlete must be
instructed by a coach that has been trained and certified in the National Coaching
Certification Program (NCCP) Level 2 or equivalent.
Athlete must not be
under sanction as per the Canadian Anti-Doping Policy.
Additional Canada Card Athlete Eligibility Criteria:
Athlete must
be attending an educational institution full-time
Exceptions will be made providing that the athlete can
substantiate that his/her training will not allow for full-time attendance or
if an athlete requires special needs that preclude full or part-time attendance
(e.g. Paralympic athlete)
Athletes who have
completed their area of study and who continue to train towards participation
in major national or international competitions will be given consideration.
Athletes who have achieved Canada card status are not
eligible for Ontario cards.
Eligibility will be limited to Ontario
junior aged athletes ( the only exception is for OALASA using 30% of Ontario
Card allotment for senior level
athletes not funded by Sport Canada) who have been identified as a next generation national team
athlete as demonstrated by:-
o results of regional/ national championships
or other recognized national/international events over the past two competitive
seasons - or
o representation on a
Canadian National Team (developmental and/or junior). Athletes training for
Canada Games or Provincial Teams may also be considered
All
athletes under the age of 18 must have their parent or legal guardian sign
their Ontario Athlete Assistance Program (OAAP) application form (funding will
be sent directly to athlete).

Specific Eligibility Criteria - Athletics
Minimum
Standard
All carding candidates must hold
membership with the Ontario Amputee and Les Autres Sports Association in the
season in which they are applying for OAAP.
Must have attended the Ontario Paralympics
Championships or the Canadian Paralympic trials in the year prior to
application - or
must the an active
registered participant in the Ontario/ Canada Games and/or Ontario Games
programs (Youth Development only)
OAAP
Selection Criteria
The selection period will be considered
from October 2007 to November, 2008.
Categories for 2007/08 OAAP Selection
will be:
Senior National Team
The two top male and two top female athletes who are
identified as next generation National Team by OALASA and CASA as of October
2007, regardless classification or event. according to the following priority:
Athletes
19 or younger as of Dec. 31, 2007, ranked in the Athletics Canada National
rankings
Athletes ranked in the OALASA Junior Athletics Rankings as of Jan.
30, 2007
Must submit Annual Training Program to the
Ontario Amputee and Les Autres Selection Committee with OAAP application form.
Must compete in the Ontario Paralympic
Championships, or Youth Provincial Championships at athletics events in the
season for which funding is granted.
Must be working with minimum level two NCCP
coach or equivalent. This coach must sign off on Annual Training plans and
training logs.
Note- this means that athletes must be getting training
lessons from a qualified coach.
Must attend at least one Provincial Level or one National or International Level training
camp in the season for which he/she is carded, as identified by the Ontario
Amputee and Les Autres Sports Association OAAP Selection Committee.
